Open Recall: Diaspora, CC, Todo, Photoshop and Ruby Heroes

Open Recall is a space on The H for those things that are too small to package as news but are worth covering. In this edition: Diaspora keeps on, Creative Commons evolves for CC4.0, Todos get done in many ways, the original Photoshop source can be seen, and do you know a Ruby Hero?

• Diaspora continues – The Diaspora project is still ongoing as a community project and a newly released 0.0.3.0 sees "tons of UI enhancements" and some performance improvements.

• Creative Commons – The third draft of Creative Commons 4.0 licensing is now available for review and public discussion. Features of the new CC licences include thorough handling of database rights, better interoperability with other licences and language to address the circumvention of technological protection measures on CC content.

• Todo Todos – Ever wondered what the same Todo web application would look like written with different frameworks? Wonder no more as TodoMVC does just that to help people choose what framework they want to use to develop their applications in.

• Photoshop from the source – The original Adobe Photoshop 1.0.1 source code is now available from the Computer History Museum for non-commercial use. It comprises 179 files with 128,000 lines of uncommented code, of which around 75% is Pascal and 15% 68000 assembler. Despite not being open source, it is still a fascinating look into where a giant of the proprietary software business got started.

• Ruby Heroes – Know someone in the Ruby community who deserves recognition? The 2013 Ruby Hero Awards are now taking nominations for "amazing contributors and unsung heroes" and the finalists will be chosen by previous Ruby Heroes.
