Open Recall icon Open Recall is a space on The H for those things that are too small to package as news but are worth the linkage. This edition looks at developments around the Ubuntu Tweak tool, Canonical's latest hire, public adoption of LibreOffice and Diaspora's call for packagers.

  • Canonical hires icon designer – During a recent Q&A session, Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth confirmed that the Ubuntu Linux sponsor has hired designer Matthieu James. Best known for his Faenza icon them for GNOME, James is said to be creating a new icon set for next year's second-quarter release of Ubuntu Linux, 13.04 "Raring Ringtail".

  • LibreOfficeThe Document Foundation's director, Italo Vignoli, has announced that the German city of Munich is migrating its systems to the open source LibreOffice productivity suite. In the mailing list post, Vignoli also mentions other public bodies migrating to LibreOffice, including the Capital Region of Denmark, the city of Limerick in Ireland, Grygov in the Czech Republic, Las Palmas in Spain, Largo in Florida, the municipality of Pilea-Hortiatis in Greece and the Public Library System of Chicago.

  • Diaspora – Developers at the Diaspora Project, the social network designed as a free software, privacy-protecting, alternative to Facebook, are looking for community members to help with packaging. The Diaspora core development team "would like to take the logical next step in getting Diaspora into the hands of people that want to set up a pod themselves"; packaging up Diaspora so it is easy to install is an effective way to enable that.
