OpenShift gears up with Enterprise 1.1 release

The new version 1.1 of Red Hat's OpenShift Enterprise brings some updates and improvements to the Platform-as-a-Service system. The core innovation of OpenShift Enterprise 1.1 is a move from the command-line tooling of OpenShift 1.0 to a more developer- and operator-friendly "developer console" for application deployment and management. OpenShift Enterprise is the edition of OpenShift that Red Hat offers as both a Public or Private PaaS offering for creating public, private or hybrid cloud environments. It is capable of running applications in Java EE 6, JavaScript (via Node.js), Ruby, Python, PHP and Perl. The private PaaS platform is powered by the same scaled code that drives Red Hat's OpenShift Online public cloud offering.

To enable simpler deployment of the private PaaS platform, for version 1.1 Red Hat has now published a reference architecture document showing how to use the OpenShift Enterprise broker host to deploy and configure domain name services, ActiveMQ and MongoDB in a distributed manner. The document "Deploying and managing a private PaaS with OpenShift Enterprise" is available to download.

Users of OpenShift Enterprise 1.0 are advised to upgrade to version 1.1 as it also fixes a number of security issues. OpenShift Enterprise is built from the components included in the open source OpenShift Origin.
