Oracle commutes end of life on Java 6

Java logo Oracle has postponed the planned end of life for Java SE 6. Originally, JDK (Java Development Kit) and Java SE 6 were due to reach end of life in July 2012, but that date has been pushed back to November 2012. Oracle says the move is to allow more time for the transition to JDK 7 and the company has updated the support roadmap to reflect that change.

Java 7 only arrived in the Summer of 2011 – Java 6 was already four and a half years old at that time. Oracle says that it has also revised its end of life policy. Now, users will see an EOL on a major release of Java occur no sooner than three years after that release and no sooner than one year after that release's successor is made available. For those who need longer support, Oracle offers a commercial package.
