Oracle logo Oracle has announced version 2.0 of its NoSQL Database, which it originally launched in September 2011. The new version of NoSQL Database is said to be better integrated with both Oracle Database and Hadoop environments. Based on the High Availability version of the Berkley DB key/value store, owned by Oracle and available under the OSI-approved and GPL-compatible Sleepycat licence, Oracle's NoSQL Database 2.0 is available to download as both an AGPL-licensed Community Edition and a commercial Enterprise Edition. The Oracle NoSQL Database is one of the key components of the Oracle Big Data platform.

Version 2.0 is said to offer better performance, with scores of more than a million Yahoo Cloud Serving Benchmark operations in one benchmark, using 15 Oracle Enterprise Linux servers, two 335GB SSD cards and a 2.4TB database. The new version also offers automatic rebalancing, a new web console for easier management and SNMP/JMX support so it can be plugged into other management platforms. A new C API has also been introduced with large object support. The improved Oracle Database integration means Oracle Database users can view and query the Oracle NoSQL Database as external tables for merging with SQL operations. The improvements to Hadoop integration offer better JSON object and schema evolution and better serialisation using Apache Avro.
