Parted Magic 3.6 released

Parted Magic has been updated to version 3.6 and includes bug fixes, updates and a number of new programs. Parted Magic can be used to create, move, delete and resize drive partitions and will run on a machine with 128MB of RAM. File systems supported include ntfs, fat, reiserfs, reiser4 and hfs+. LVM and RAID are also supported. The update to the open source live CD collection of hard disk management tools "offers a major overhaul in the way Parted Magic boots and behaves."

According to the developers, in this release, 'Parted Magic PXE should work again'. Keyboard locales have been improved, along with some grammar updates and menu error correction. The splash screen has been removed to save space in the package and reduce the amount of memory needed to run. Devices can be mounted in a new way too, mount-gtk creates a consistent interface to mount file systems found in fstab created by the pmagic_fstab_daemon.

One application in the collection, xfburn-0.4.0, had to be reverted to the previous version (xfburn-0.3.2) because it wasn't detecting devices correctly. Three new programs have been added; mount-gtk-1.0.1, pmount_0.9.18 and pmagic_mount.

Updates to the collection include; gparted-0.4.3, linux-2.6.28.5, hdparm-9.10, fsarchiver-0.4.1, e2fsprogs-1.41.4, syslinux-3.73, kbd-1.15, module-init-tools-3.6, hal-info-20090202 and ntfs-3g-2009.2.1.

Parted Magic 3.6 is available to download and can be run as a LiveCD or LiveUSB.
