PhoneGap supports Windows Phone 8
Version 2.3 of both PhoneGap and its parent project, Apache Cordova, have been released. PhoneGap allows native mobile applications to be developed using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The framework serves as a container for mobile web applications and provides access to native system features via custom interfaces. Finished applications can be made available as native packages for target platforms such as iOS, Android, BlackBerry, webOS or bada. Adobe offers a fee-based service which automates the build and deployment process; it is due to support the new release in the near future. PhoneGap itself is developed as an open source technology within the Apache Cordova project.
The PhoneGap developers said that, just before Christmas, the Apache Cordova project received a code donation from Microsoft that has enabled them to provide full support for Windows Phone 8, the latest version of Microsoft's mobile operating system. Further background information is available in a blog post by Adobe's Jesse MacFadyen. Another new feature is the "InAppBrowser" API, a built-in web browser for PhoneGap apps, with an API that follows web standards, though only iOS and Android are currently supported.
Further information about the new features related to iOS can be found in the iOS readme; information for Android is available in the Android readme.
