ROSA Enterprise Linux Server 2012 released

Russian firm ROSA, previously best known for the Mandriva-fork ROSA Marathon 2012, has released ROSA Enterprise Linux Server (RELS) 2012, code-named "Helium". In contrast to ROSA Desktop, the server distribution is based not on Mandriva, but on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6, with various additional packages, and in-house tools and applications from ROSA.

RELS includes a directory component, ROSA Directory Server, for user and resource management. There is also a web-based administrative interface, ROSA Server Setup, for installing and configuring components such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Samba, CUPS, Postfix and Bacula. The server distribution uses the 2.6.32 Linux kernel and includes LXDE as its standard desktop along with a number of bundled tools. GNOME 2.28 or KDE 4.3.5 desktops can also be optionally installed. Additionally, RELS includes the recent OpenStack Essex release, so that the distribution can also be used to set up IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) cloud environments.

ROSA Enterprise Linux Server "Helium" 2012 is available to download for 32- and 64-bit systems from ROSA's mirrors. Users registering on the ROSA web site will receive 30 days free support. The distribution's developers are promising prompt security updates, but reserve the right to limit distribution of other enhancements to paying customers.
