Rails 3.1 now available
David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of the Ruby web framework Ruby on Rails, has announced that Rails 3.1 is now available. The latest version of Rails brings a wide range of improvements to the framework: asset pipelining, which makes the management and use of JavaScript and CSS assets simpler and more effective by promoting them to being "first class citizens" in a Rails project; HTTP streaming, which sends stylesheets and JavaScript to the browser while the server is building a response; and the change to jQuery, from Prototype, as Rails' default JavaScript Library.
Other enhancements include reversible migrations, a per-request identity map for rapid retrieval of records and numerous changes to Action Pack, Active Record, Active Model, Active Resource and Active Support. Full details of these changes can be found in the release notes.
The H has also published a feature article to look at some of the "New Features of Rails 3.1" and put many of the new features in context.
