Red Hat releases JBoss Data Grid 6.1

Red Hat has released version 6.1 of in-memory database JBoss Data Grid. It is based on grid computing platform Infinispan and supports programming languages including Java, C# and the Spring and .NET frameworks. JBoss Data Grid was developed for enterprise and cloud use and provides a distributed, highly scalable cache which, by caching data, reduces response times and increases reliability of applications using it.

New features in version 6.1 include replication between geographically-distributed clusters using cross-data-centre replication (XDR) and non-blocking state transfer (NBST), with a pause-less join-and-leave protocol, which ensures availability during state transfer.

The map/reduce framework on which the product is based now has better support for long-running applications and lets developers work with a "de facto standard" API for driving the compute grid. Caches using the Hotrod protocol will, when the product is updated, now use rolling upgrades to migrate, making it easier to update a running grid. Red Hat has also added support for context dependency injection (CDI), a Java standard for dependency-injection-based module configuration at runtime.
