Release candidate available for Linux Mint 12 KDE

The Linux Mint team has announced the availability of a release candidate for Linux Mint 12 KDE, the version of the Linux Mint distribution with the latest version of KDE, 4.7.4. Like Linux Mint 12, it is based on Ubuntu 11.10. This is the first Linux Mint KDE release which, like other recent Mint releases, has hybrid ISO images; this enables the simple creation of a bootable USB stick, which can behave just like a live CD or DVD, using just the dd command. A tutorial is provided to explain how to install Linux Mint via USB.

As with Linux Mint 12 "Lisa", this version uses DuckDuckGo as the default search engine; the search engine was selected by the developers as their default as it does not personalise searches by maintaining, storing or passing on any search history or other personal information. As a result, any two people making the same search request should receive exactly the same results. A number of known issues, such as the inability to use ctrl-alt-backspace to restart sessions and the pdf printer only printing blank pages, are listed in the release notes.

The developers hope that users will test this release candidate and give feedback by reporting bugs on their blog. Linux Mint 12 KDE RC is available to download from the project's site for both 32- and 64-bit systems. The same pages also provide links to the torrent files and primary mirrors for the ISO images.
