Ruby creator working on mobile Ruby dialect
Ruby creator Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto revealed that he is working on a dialect of Ruby designed for small devices. In a recent Infoworld interview, Matsumoto says he plans to go public with the subset of the Ruby language early in 2012, adding: "mobile computing is the way to go, so that's one of the reasons I focus on the Ruby dialect working on the smaller devices". Matsumoto did not give details of what would change in a mobile-oriented version of Ruby.
Matsumoto characterised the recently previewed Ruby 1.9.3 as "kind of a bug fix release, but it's more stable and faster and a safer version" and said that, after its release, work begins on Ruby 2.0. He is not expecting his language creation to take over though – when asked about Java, he said: "Java has its own ecosystem and I think it will live forever".
