Second RC of Debian GNU / Linux 5.0 Installer
The second release candidate (RC2) of Debian 5.0 "Lenny" Installer has been released by the Debian development team. RC2 is now available for download as a CD, DVD, and Blu-ray image. It includes various bug fixes, along with an updated kernel (2.6.26-13) and refreshed external modules (2.6.26-5). Innovations include support for encrypted partitions in rescue mode and the BRLTTY screen reader for blind users, using a refreshable braille display.
The team is inviting interested users to test the release, but notes that there are still some outstanding bugs in the Lenny RC2. Caution is recommended for rescue mode and software RAID, as the scripts used to run the RAID can cause invalid RAID super block data loss. The long awaited final version of Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 will be completely 'free' after the debate about proprietary firmware, however a concrete release date has not yet been set.
