SkySQL sets up in the UK
SkySQL, the company founded by ex-MySQL executives and investors to provide support and services for the MySQL ecosystem, has set up offices in the UK. The Helsinki-based company, which bills itself as a MySQL and MariaDB solutions provider, offers a subscription service which ranges from basic "2 incident" MySQL/MariaDB/Drizzle/Percona support for €500 per year per server to unlimited enterprise 24x7, 30 minute response time support at €28000 per year. SkySQL also offers training and specialised support for high availability systems.
The company uses a portion of its income to contribute to the development of Monty Widenius's MySQL fork and drop-in replacement MariaDB and hopes to launch new products that tie the database to the cloud by the end of the year. Also helping with new product development is a recent influx of €6 million seed funding. The company has already taken on 160 customers, including Deutsche Telekom, ATOS Worldline and Virgin Mobile, since being founded in 2010.
