Slackware Linux 13.1 arrives
Almost nine months after Slackware Linux 13 was released, the Slackware developers have announced the availability of the first point update for version 13 of their popular Linux distribution. Discussing the new release, the developers say that, "We've done our best to bring the latest technology to Slackware while still maintaining the stability and security that you have come to expect".
Slackware 13.1 is based on the 2.6.33.4 Linux kernel patched with Speakup to support speech synthesisers and features version 4.4.3 of the KDE desktop environment. Version 4.6.1 of the lightweight Xfce desktop has also received some minor updates. The included browsers and email have been updated to version 2.0.4 of the SeaMonkey "all-in-one internet application suite", Firefox 3.6.3 and the 3.0.4 release of the Thunderbird email client. Package updates include the latest 2.7.0 release of the Pidgin instant messenger application, GIMP 2.6.8 and Qt 4.6.2.
More details about the release can be found in the release announcement, release notes and packages list. Slackware Linux 13.1 is available to download for 32 and 64-bit systems from one of the project's mirrors.
