Spring and Groovy/Grails tool suites get performance boost
SpringSource has released version 3.2.0 of the Spring Tool Suite (STS) and Groovy/Grails Tool Suite (GGTS). The new versions include updates to Eclipse Juno SR2, support for high resolution displays on Mac OS X, support for Spring Integration 2.2 and compilers for Grails 2.2.1 and Groovy 2.0.7.
With respect to the Spring tools, the development team has been working their way through implementing various performance improvements, especially when working with Java files and Spring-specific project builders. Code completion and validation are now available for findBy
methods in Spring Data repository classes, as is a revised Live Spring Beans Graph. In the latter case, the developers have also added an additional tree mode for the Live Beans view.
The updated Groovy/Grails Tools can be used to add a compiler for Groovy 2.1 as an add-on via the extensions page. GGTS therefore now supports the Groovy 2.1 expression @DelegatesTo
and static type checking for DSLs. Gradle preferences now include an option for automatically refreshing dependencies.
A summary of major changes can be found on the New and Noteworthy page, and more detailed information on bug fixes in the issue trackers. The new versions are available from the STS and GGTS download pages. Source codes for both suites is licensed under the Eclipse Public License and is available from the SpringSource GitHub page.
