Stackato 2.0 adds .NET support
The latest release of ActiveState's Stackato cloud platform brings support for Microsoft's .NET programming language. The platform as a service (PaaS) product initially only supported Perl and Python, but now offers support for Java, Ruby, PHP, Node.js, Clojure, Scala and Erlang as well.
Stackato is based on VMware's open source Cloud Foundry project and extends it by adding extra functionality for developers and business users such as an improved security model and added management consoles. The service enables users to install and manage applications in private clouds such as VMware's vSphere or in public clouds from Amazon or Rackspace. Support for HP Cloud Services is in the works.
Stackato is available in two versions, the free-of-charge Stackato Micro Cloud edition that allows local usage of the service in one virtual machine and the full commercial Stackato Enterprise edition. The Stackato Enterprise version can be run on clusters and includes all features of the project including deployment to public cloud providers and auto scaling. Pricing for this edition is available upon request.
