StartCom has released a new version of StartCom Linux AS. The Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.3 ("Kishuf") release adds support for the new Intel quad-core Core-i7 processors (Nehalem) and includes the open source implementation of Java SE 6 OpenJDK. The new release has improved scaling for virtual x86 and x64 environments and can easily handle virtual servers with up to 32 virtual CPUs and 80GB of RAM each. The limits of each physical server are 126 CPUs and 1TB of memory.

The free Linux distribution is based on the source code for Red Hat's Advanced Server and is intended for medium to large server environments. According to StartCom's website the release includes, in total, more than 150 additions and updates. StartCom is an Israeli start-up, launched in 2004, that provides support, consulting and implementation of services based around StartCom Enterprise Linux.
