Thunderbird 7 arrives
The new version 7.0 of the open source Thunderbird news and email client has been released to the stable channel. The update is based on the Mozilla Gecko 7 engine and includes user interface improvements, as well as fixes for attachment handling.
Other changes include "platform improvements to Address Book" and the addition of the ability to print a summary of selected messages. The developers say that "hundreds of Add-ons" for Thunderbird have also been updated, including the Lightning Calendar, Conversation View and OpenSearch add-ons.
Like Firefox 7, Thunderbird 7 also addresses "several security issues". However, at the time of writing, the Security Advisories for Thunderbird has not been updated. An update to the 3.1.x branch of Thunderbird, version 3.1.15, has also been released to fix the same security holes. All users are advised to upgrade to the latest version.
Further information about the update can be found in a post on the Thunderbird Blog and in the release notes. Thunderbird 7.0 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from the project's site. Alternatively, existing users can immediately trigger an upgrade using the built-in update tool or wait for the automatic update notification.
Thunderbird binaries are released under the Mozilla Thunderbird End-User Software License Agreement and the source code is released under disjunctive tri-licensing that includes the Mozilla Public Licence, GPLv2 and LGPLv2.1.
