Ubuntu One gets official Windows client

Canonical has announced the release of an official Windows client for its Ubuntu One (U1) online service, ten months after it first entered public beta. The Ubuntu One team says that the new client is "a major milestone", noting that it will help U1's multi-platform strategy. "We believe in giving all users regardless of platform, access to one of the best personal cloud services available", added the developers.

Ubuntu One is a managed file storage and synchronisation service targeted at the users of the Ubuntu Linux distribution and is included by default with the OS. With the service, users can synchronise files between their Ubuntu systems and their mobile devices running Android 2.1 or later – and now their Windows systems as well. The cloud storage platform celebrated reaching more than 1 million users earlier this year.

The basic Ubuntu One Free service includes 5 GB of storage at no charge. The Music Streaming service, which comes with 20 GB of storage, costs $3.99 per month or $39.99 per year.
