Univention Corporate Server 3.0 update can manage Ubuntu clients

The second update to version 3.0 of Univention Corporate Server (UCS), released Tuesday, has a number of fixes, upgrades and enhancements, including official support for managing Ubuntu clients in the Management Console. UCS 3.0-2 is based on Debian 6.0.5 (Squeeze) – integrating important fixes and upgrading the long-term Linux kernel to version 2.6.32.59 – and includes a browser-based wizard for configuring physical and cloud-based appliances.

The company notes that the new wizard should simplify the use of UCS as a cloud image, and that individual menus can now be "more extensively configured", allowing third-party integrators to better adapt their images. Other changes include support for managing network properties for DNS/DHCP servers in the Management Console (required by some cloud services such as Amazon EC2), improvements to the Active Directory functions provided with Samba 4 and, to allow for single sign-on in combination with Samba 4, an independent authentication module is now used to perform NTLM authentication on the Squid proxy server.
