WordPress 3.1.4 and 3.2 RC3 published

The WordPress.org development team has released version 3.1.4 of its open source blogging and publishing platform, a maintenance and security update to WordPress 3.1 released in late February. According to the developers, the latest stable update addresses a security vulnerability that could allow a malicious editor-level user to gain further access to the site. Other changes include fixes for several other security issues and improved hardening measures.

At the same time, a third release candidate (RC3) for WordPress 3.2 has also been published; the previous RC was originally intended to be the last, with the final version shipping by the end of June. In the announcement, WordPress Lead Developer Ryan Boren said that "This release was about all that stood in the way of a final release of WordPress 3.2." WordPress 3.2 RC3 contains all of the fixes included in 3.1.4, as well as JavaScript and user interface tweaks.

As previously noted by the developers, version 3.2 of WordPress has new system requirements: PHP 5.24 and MySQL 5.0. Users testing the release are asked to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter in the forums, mailing lists, over IRC on irc.freenode.net #wordpress-dev or directly into the WordPress Trac.

Alternatively, 3.1.x users can update automatically via the Dashboard > Updates menu in the site admin area. WordPress is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL).
