Zope 3.4.0 released after two years in development
Zope 3.4.0, the latest version of the Python based, open source web application server, has been released. Zope 3.4 has been in development for two years, with the first beta having been released in July 2007.
The aim of development on 3.4 was to move Zope from a monolithic source tree into a set of Python eggs, small independent packages, which are easier to reuse and manage. For development and deployment, Zope 3.4.0 uses a "Known Good Set" of eggs, which are tested and verified by the Zope developers, to configure projects. Developers can also use the zopeproject project builder for the quick set-up of a working server, using boilerplate code.
In the announcement, the developers noted that there was no demo package to demonstrate a simple Zope 3 application set-up, but give instructions for setting up a simple form server.
Zope is used by companies such as Viacom and SGI, and organisations such as NATO and the US Navy.
