openSUSE 11.3 reaches end of life
The openSUSE project has announced that version 11.3 of its popular Linux distribution has reached its end of life. After 20 January (last Friday), no new updates, including security updates and critical fixes, will be available. Users are strongly advised to upgrade to version 11.4 or later to continue receiving updates; the current stable release is openSUSE 12.1 from mid-November 2011.
New versions of the distribution are typically released every eight months and have a life cycle of 18 months. Version 11.4 of openSUSE will be supported until 15 September 2012 and openSUSE 12.1 will receive support until 15 May 2013.
The developers have already started planning for their next major release, openSUSE 12.2. According to the project's preliminary roadmap, openSUSE 12.2 Milestone 1 will arrive on 9 February and be followed by three additional milestone builds, a beta and two release candidates. The final version is scheduled for release on 11 July 2012.
