Second DDoS attack on UK Police Agency

The web site of SOCA, the UK Police's Serious Organised Crime Agency, at soca.gov.uk has been taken offline after a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the organisation's servers. Nearly a year ago, the SOCA servers were taken offline by a similar attack by LulzSec and Anonymous. The new DDoS attack was tweeted by @YourAnonNews at just before 2pm UK time, but no responsibility was claimed for the attack.

The SOCA site was taken offline on Wednesday evening in response to the denial of service. A spokesman told ZDNet that while attacks were inconvenient to visitors, it did not consider maintaining the necessary bandwidth to deal with a DDoS a good use of taxpayers' money. It is unclear who is behind the attack or when the public facing web site, which SOCA says contains only publicly available information, will be back online.
