The GNOME project published a first beta for version 3.4 of its desktop environment, a new report found that the quality of open source software exceeds that of proprietary software and the organisation behind the Raspberry Pi ARM-based mini-computer has announced that it has new partners. The open source HandBrake video transcoder software was updated to version 0.9.6, adding support for Blu-ray, and the Android-x86 Project issued a release candidate for its port of Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" for x86 hardware.
