Adobe launches an open source and web standards portal

Adobe has decided that it should do more to promote the range of web standards and open source projects that it is involved in and to that end it has now opened "Adobe & HTML" at html.adobe.com. The web site covers web standards, open source projects and the tools and services that Adobe offers in relation to those standards and projects.

In terms of web standards, the site provides summaries and introductions to CSS features that Adobe is championing, such as CSS Regions, Shaders, Exclusions, Compositing and Transforms. For open source, it provides information about the projects it contributes to, such as the Apache Cordova project which was based on Adobe's Phonegap, jQuery Mobile, the CreateJS libraries, and WebKit (where it implemented the CSS features it mentions as web standards).

Finally, under tools and services, the site gives information about Adobe Edge and Proto design tools, Dreamweaver and Fireworks production tools, the Adobe Shadow web inspector, Typekit web fonts and other publication tools. The page also hints at the development of a "different type of code editor" – this could though be a reference to the currently in development Brackets editor.
