Alien Arena "Reloaded Edition" first-person shooter released
The developers at COR Entertainment have released version 7.60 of their first-person shooter (FPS), Alien Arena: Reloaded Edition. The major update to the developer's flagship game comes more than 18 months after Alien Arena 7.50 arrived, and features new content and gameplay enhancements.
Alien Arena 7.60 includes a total of twelve new and rebuilt maps, and two new playable characters: the "Overlord" and "Warrior". A new weapon called the "Minderaser" and extra music tracks have also been added. The developers say that the bots' artificial intelligence (AI) has been improved, particularly for capture the flag (CTF) matches.
Sub-surface light scattering and rim lighting, liquid dripping effects, glowing effects, smoother transition of mesh lighting, and chained particle lighting effects are among the new rendering features. A "Simple" items rendering option has also been added. Other changes include expanded movement, improvements to weapon switching and selection, anti-lag enhancements and various bug fixes.
Alien Arena is a free-to-play, Sci-fi themed game that features colourful 3D, arcade-like atmospheres and a number of gameplay modes, such as death match. The cross-platform shooter has both single player and online multiplayer gameplay, and is based on the source code for the CRX engine (used by Quake II) released by iD Software.
Further information, including a full list of fixes and improvements, can be found in the release announcement and in the change log. Alien Arena: Reloaded Edition (7.60) is available to download from one of the project's mirrors. Alien Arena is freeware with GPL-licensed code and proprietary multimedia resources.
