Amarok open source music player for Windows
Source: Amarok
Back in January, the developers of the Amarok open source music player released what is their current version 2.7.0 ("A Minor Tune"), but initially it was only available for Linux. Now, they have added an official Windows version that should run under Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
However, users will discover that the Windows version has various limitations compared to the Linux application: The Nepomuk Collection plugin is missing so the system lacks the metadata indexing capabilities that came with the plugin. Also missing are any features, such as the equaliser and MoodBar, that would require the GStreamer framework. The Windows edition of Amarok uses the VLC backend instead and lacks the transcoding features of its Linux counterpart.
Amarok 2.7.0 for Windows is available to download from the project"s web site. As most of the Amarok developers don't have access to a Windows installation, the project has asked users to test this build and submit bug reports. Amarok is licensed under the GPLv2.
