The maintainers of the integrated development environment for the KDE desktop, KDevelop, have released the latest version of their software introducing a framework for unit tests that integrates CTest/QTestLib and PHPUnit and enables developers to start these tests from within the program. KDevelop 4.5's support for Ruby's Test::Unit is currently in development. The new version also includes numerous improvements in its user interface and to the application's New Class wizard. There's also better support for C++11 features within the IDE.

In a blog post on the KDE.org blog from December, the developers describe several other improvements that were added to the release as part of the project's development sprint in October 2012. Aside from the new unit tests functionality, contributions from the sprint improved the project templates, Python, Ruby and C++ support as well as adding initial support for JavaScript and QML to the development platform. The developers also ported some of the web development plugins from the defunct Quanta Plus IDE to KDevelop.

KDevelop 4.5.0 is available for download from the KDE Project's mirrors. Its source code is licensed under the GPLv2.
