Apache Solr 1.4.0 released

The Apache Lucene project has released Apache Solr 1.4. Solr is an enterprise search platform which features full-text search with hit highlighting, rich document handling and database integration. The search technology is based on the Lucene Java search library, and Solr adds RESTful XML and JSON APIs to make the system easily accessible from any language. It also provides a web administration interface to the server which can be run as a standalone server inside a servlet container.

Solr 1.4.0 sees improvements in the Java search engines performance, a reworked, simple to configure, index replication mechanism and rich document processing using the Apache Tika metadata extractor. The release notes list 84 new features, 17 optimisation, 75 bugfixes and 49 other changes made in the 1.4.0 release, from switching to SLF4J for logging to the addition of new plugins for auto-suggestions, deduplication and statistics.

Solr 1.4.0 is available download and is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. A short tutorial demonstrates how to start a standalone Solr server and use it for indexing and search.
