Black Duck has integrated its Code Center, Export and Protex products into the Black Duck Suite as a unified framework. The suite is a commercial product designed to automate the management of open source code, including the detection, selection, acceptance, validation, licensing compliance and monitoring of components. It is intended to help larger companies manage their software assets throughout the application development cycle.

The core component of the Black Duck Suite is the Black Duck KnowledgeBase. The KnowledgeBase is a repository that contains over 185,000 open source projects and relevant data, along with their licences and the latest vulnerabilities. Based on its KnowledgeBase, the Black Duck Suite generates a Catalog, a local database that contains information about the actual use of open source components within a company. It shows which components have been approved, rejected or are still in-process, in addition to where components are being used. The approval work flows can be specifically defined by a company.

The commercial suite will be available within the next 30 days. Additional details about the release can be found in the Black Duck press release.
