Community voting starts for Ubuntu App Showdown
Canonical employee David Planella has opened the voting period for the Ubuntu App Showdown. After the three winners of the contest were announced last week, the community now gets to vote, and three more applications will win prizes for their developers.
The community vote will run until 28 August and votes can be cast by filling out an online form set up by Canonical. Users who want to vote are encouraged to install several of the applications and test them before voting on them. The Ubuntu wiki includes a list of the applications included in the voting; this page also includes instructions how to install each application. Most of the software is available from separate Personal Package Archives.
Users are invited to include feedback in the voting form as developers are allowed to keep improving their applications during the voting process. Once users have cast their vote they can change it until the voting period concludes, thanks to a browser cookie saved by the voting site. The developers of the winning applications will each receive a N9 mobile phone from Nokia.
