Engine Yard announces offical Node.js support
After nine months in the company's Labs programme, official support for Node.js has now been added to Engine Yard's Cloud Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution. Node.js is a popular server-side JavaScript framework for building fast, scalable web applications; the open source platform is based on Google's V8 JavaScript engine and uses an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model.
In addition deploying using the Ruby on Rails or PHP frameworks, Engine Yard customers will now be be able to build and publish applications based on Node.js to the company's commercial cloud, without having to worry about hardware requirements, or administering or maintaining the Node.js environment. The addition of Node.js support also means that it closes the language gap with Heroku, a competing cloud application platform provider that has supported the framework for some time now. Like Engine Yard, Heroku supports Java and Ruby but also has Scala, Clojure and Python support; Engine Yard supports PHP, which Heroku does not.
Engine Yard has provided a Getting Started with Node.js guide on its blog and has also created a Getting to Know Node infographic. According to the company, support for Node.js on its cloud PaaS will be available to customers within a month.
