Facebook, Tokutek and PhpMyAdmin receive MySQL Awards
At the Percona Live: MySQL Conference and Expo 2013, the community around the open source database engine has honoured several individuals, companies and projects in the MySQL Community Awards 2013. Facebook, Continuent and Tokutek received awards for their corporate commitment to the technology, while PhpMyAdmin and MySQL Sandbox were honoured as projects based around MySQL.
Facebook had previously won the Application of the Year award, but this time received Corporate Contributor of the Year in recognition for "funding, hiring, publishing, and promoting MySQL products, companies, and individuals". Tokutek, which recently open sourced its storage engine, was honoured for sponsoring various events and user groups and for actively participating in the MySQL community.
Mikael Ronström's NDB Cluster engine was named Storage Engine of the Year 2013 for being a leader in MySQL performance and clustering. The Applications of the Year using MySQL are the PHP-based database administration web application PhpMyAdmin and the testing tool MySQL Sandbox. The recipients of the Community Contributor awards were developers Jeremy Cole and Shane Bester, as well as blogger and author Ronald Bradford who has won his second award of this kind after previously winning it in 2009.
The MySQL Community Awards are given out annually by the MySQL community. A list of previous winners is available on Henrik Ingo's OpenLife.cc web site.
