First major release of Eclipse's Swordfish ESB
At the beginning of EclipseCon, the Eclipse Community conference, the Eclipse Foundation announced the first major release of its Swordfish Project, an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). Code for Swordfish 0.8 is expected to be available in early April. Eclipse Executive Director Mike Milinkovich is quoted in a report as saying that the release has not been called a 1.0-level release because the APIs are not fully ready.
The ESB is based on known open source projects such as OSGi, and leverages open source projects like Eclipse Equinox and the Apache ESB ServiceMix. It uses standards from the SOA environment like Java Business Integration (JBI), Service Component Architecture (SCA) and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), and supports techniques such as distributed deployment and a runtime service registry for loose coupling of services. Swordfish also contains a monitoring framework to track messages and a remote configuration agent that can configure distributed servers from a central repository.
Swordfish is part of the Eclipse runtime top-level project. It's managed as part of eclipse.org by Sopera, which was split off from the German Post Office's service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform.
