Flock logo A report on TechCrunch says that Flock, the social networking web browser based on Firefox, is planning to switch to Google's Chrome. Flock's CEO, Shawn Hadrin, has responded, saying the next release of Flock, 2.1, would still be based on Firefox and the company had not stopped working with the Mozilla browser, but he also did not confirm or deny the reported switch in development.

According to the TechCrunch report, sources have said that Flock have become frustrated with Mozilla's "lack of attention to Flock's needs" with one source saying the company felt like "the red headed step child of the Mozilla community".

Flock would need a cross platform version of Chrome with plug-in support to be able to replace Firefox completely. Both are features that are being developed for Chrome, but progress so far suggests the cross platform version will be at least a few months away.
