e2factory opens its gates
e2factory, a build management system for embedded system developers, has been released as open source by emlix. Emlix, a specialist in creating embedded linux systems, developed e2factory to manage the complexity of bringing together numerous open source and free software packages to create releases for its customers. The e2factory software can use multiple source code control systems, such as git or subversion, within the same project if necessary, and the configuration and results of building with e2factory are themselves version controlled. This allows the build process to be easily reproducible and that in turn assists in the validation and auditing of the delivered software.
The build system also documents the open source licenses of any modules used, making it easier to comply with those licenses. e2factory has been released under the GPL3 and emlix is offering a professional edition with a service contract.
