Samsung are to introduce the Samsung N100 running the open source Linux distribution, MeeGo, into India. The machine – a 10.1" screened, 1.33Ghz dual core Atom N435 with 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard disk and a 3 cell battery – will sell for 12,290 rupees, approximately £170. There were no details released as to which version of MeeGo will be preinstalled, but it should be safe to assume that it will be at least MeeGo 1.2 which was released in May.

According to IIFL, the machine will also be available with FreeDOS or Windows 7. Asus launched a similar machine, the X101, at the Computex tradeshow in May, which also offered versions with MeeGo and Windows 7. It appears, at least so far, that manufacturers are announcing MeeGo versions of their netbooks to present consumers with a lower entry price point, but are hedging their bets and making sure they have a Windows 7 version available as well.
