Wine 1.3.25 brings rewritten audio support

Version 1.3.25 of Wine, the latest fortnightly development version of what will eventually become Wine 1.4, has been released. Aimed at developers, testers and early adopters, Wine 1.3.25 brings rewritten audio support using the Windows 7 (Win7) architecture, while removing old sound drivers for JACK, NAS and ESD.

According to the project's development team, the development release offers improved handling of the shell recycle bin and better joystick support in DirectInput. Other changes include updates to the graphics driver architecture for the DIB engine and an initial stub for VBScript support, as well the usual bug fixes. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they find.

Wine 1.3.25 source is available to download (direct download); documentation is provided. Once built, links to binary packages will be available from the project's download page. The latest stable version is Wine 1.2.3, a bug fix update to the 1.2 branch, from mid-April.

Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) is free open source software that allows users to run Windows applications on Linux and Unix by providing its own native replacements for Windows DLLs.
