Jetty logo The open source Java servlet container, Jetty, is now an incubation project at the Eclipse Foundation, following the move of the core components of Jetty 7 into the Eclipse repository. The move carries through on Greg Wilkin's proprosal to move Jetty under the Eclipse Project's umbrella. Jetty is to be part of the Eclipse Runtime top level project, but will also continue to be a Codehaus project, making it available under both the Apache 2 and Eclipse Public Licence (EPL).

cometD logo Some components, developed under the umbrella of the Jetty project, have been spun out into their own projects, or become modules with their own release cycles. For example, the cometD implementation has moved from Jetty's contrib repository to the Dojo Foundations cometd.org project.

Version 6 of Jetty will remain at Codehaus and continue to be maintained and supported "for some time". The Jetty 7 code base, now at Eclipse, will initially focus on repackaging Jetty 6 capabilities for a stable release. Delay in the development of a stable Servlet 3.0 API has meant that Jetty 7 will now implement the Servlet 2.5 API and aims to be available in the second quarter of 2009. A parallel Jetty 8.x development branch is to be created which will continue the development of a Servlet 3.0 API version. It aims to be stable and available in the first quarter of 2010.
