Rekonq logo The Rekonq developers have announced the release of version 0.9 of their WebKit-based web browser for the KDE desktop. The stable update to the lightweight alternative to the Konqueror browser includes several new features, such as a revamped URL bar.

The updated URL bar includes a suggestion mechanism that attempts to predict what a user is typing and provide relevant results. A full sync mechanism is included for synchronising passwords, bookmarks and history using remote OwnCloud installations; support for alternative services such as Google Bookmarks and Mozilla's browser sync is expected to arrive in a future release. With the addition of web applications support, users can create "web apps" for their favourite sites and online services.

Other changes include improvements to the download manager and download page, revamped WebKit settings, support for user session management and fixes for retrieving favicons from sites. The user agent code and user interface (UI) have also been refactored.

Rekonq 0.9.0 is available to download from SourceForge. Source code for Rekonq is licensed under the GPLv3.
