Linux Foundation takes over Linux.com
The Linux Foundation has announced it is taking over Linux.com and is planning to turn it into a community forum and news site. Linux.com previously carried news, but at the start of 2009 the site was stripped down to just a web forum. That forum has now gone, replaced by a "Linux.com is relaunching" page and an appeal for ideas on what the new Linux.com should contain. The Foundation says that it is working in conjunction with SourceForge, the e-commerce and community-driven media specialist, on a new beta version of the site that "will release in a few months". Together the two organisations are aiming to build a fresh new venue for the Linux community.
Last week, the Linux Foundation announced it was also branching into training, with plans to offer courses on Linux technologies from kernel internals and debugging through to file-systems, device drivers and application development. The first courses will be held in San Francisco in the days before the Linux Collaboration Summit. The trio of announced two day courses cover creating applications for Linux, kernel debugging and device driver development and will cost $1099 each. No other training dates have been announced yet, but the Foundation says it plans to hold courses around the world.
