Magnolia CMS 4.3 gets Groovy
Version 4.3 of the open source Magnolia CMS has been released as both a community and enterprise edition. According to Magnolia's CTO Boris Kraft, the new release introduces a number of architectural changes to the Java based content management system in preparation for the transition to version 5.0 – due later this year. One major feature of the new release is the Groovy integration. Groovy, the dynamic, Java-like scripting language, is now supported within Magnolia CMS, allowing developers and users to easily create and administer functionality within the CMS without leaving the Java stack that Magnolia is built on.
The new version also introduces a new flexible framework for multi-site management that allows Magnolia users to create and administer mobile content sites, micro-sites and white-labelled content. Multilingual support has been simplified and a new "fall back" mechanism allows users to set a default language for situations where a translation to the reader's language is not available. Other changes include the first version of the Magnolia Store, a mechanism which allows administrators and developers to purchase and install extension modules, and a refined tag architecture with cleaner separation concerns. The latter change is noted as making the transition to Magnolia 5.0 more transparent.
The GPL3 licensed Community Edition is available to download now. The Enterprise Edition is available as a free 60 day trial, with prices starting at $12,000. A comparison of the two editions is also available.
