Mandriva specialist ROSA releases enterprise distribution

ROSA, previously known for ROSA Marathon 2012, a Mandriva fork with five-year support, has now released a test version of an enterprise Linux server distribution. According to the release announcement, the beta version of ROSA Enterprise Linux Server (RELS) "Helium" is based on Red Hat and Mandriva server solutions.

The distribution includes ROSA Directory Server, a directory service for user and resource management based on Mandriva Directory Server. Additionally, it includes ROSA Server Setup, a web interface for installing and configuring components such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Samba, Cups, Postfix and Bacula. Also included is the recent OpenStack Essex release, which can be used to set up IaaS (infrastructure as a service) cloud environments. The kernel is based on Linux 2.6.32 and the standard desktop is LXDE, with GNOME 2.28 and KDE 4.3.5 available as optional extras. The distribution is available for 32- and 64-bit x86 systems.

The Russian company has also released an alpha version of ROSA Desktop 2012, a desktop distribution based on Mandriva. It uses Linux kernel 3.5 and includes KDE 4.9, released in early August. A beta version is expected in October.
