Open source DVR MythTV 0.22 arrives
After more than a year and a half of development, the MythTV developers have announced the availability of version 0.22 of their open source digital video recorder (DVR). The latest update to the media centre for Linux includes a number of changes, updates and new features over the previous 0.21 release from March of 2008.
As the MythTV user interface was ported from Qt 3 to Qt 4, MythTV 0.22 features a new MythUI library with all new capabilities and an all new default UI theme. Support has been added for second generation satellite Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-S2), HDHomeRun Multirec, VDPAU video acceleration and the Hauppauge HD-PVR. Other changes include Windows port improvements, a new channel scanner, fewer external dependencies and support for more codecs/containers in MythMusic. Additionally, MythBrowser now uses the WebKit browser engine and has no dependency on KDE libraries.
More details about the release, including a list of bug fixes, can be found in the release notes. MythTV 0.22 source code is available to download from the project's site and binary packages will be available soon for all major distributions. MythTV is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
Users wanting to take a closer look at MythTV, or set up their own dedicated MythTV system, may be interested in a tailor-made distribution, such as KnoppMyth, MiniMyth and Mythbuntu.
