Oracle join SQLite Consortium

SQLite Logo Oracle has announced that it has joined the SQLite Consortium. The move came, according the BerkeleyDB's Senior Product Manager Gregory Burd, "to show our commitment to the community which built SQLite and demonstrate our sincere desire to be a good citizen and partner". Oracle acquired Sleepycat Software, the makers of the open source BerkeleyDB, in 2006.

Joining the SQLite Consortium means that the company now has access to more complete test suites that it will use to validate BerkeleyDB's SQLite API which was introduced in March. Burd says that the SQLite 3's ANSI C API is the "new 'ODBC'" for relational database access and praises SQLite's approach to small device SQL storage for "making the right trade-offs". He also noted that Oracle does not want to see SQLite fork and plans to continually work with the SQLite developers.
