Pentaho 4.1 includes new in-memory analytics capabilities
Pentaho has released version 4.1 of its open source Business Intelligence (BI) suite and analytics software. Available both as a Community Edition and a commercial Enterprise Edition, the update includes "major" data analysis performance, scalability and reliability improvements, as well as support for distributed in-memory caching systems.
According to founder and CSO Richard Daley, the new release of Pentaho Business Analytics, part of the BI suite, removes "the performance versus scalability trade-off constraints of traditional data analysis solutions". Pentaho 4.1 includes data analysis support for Infinispan/JBoss Enterprise Data Grid and Memcached, and can also be extended to other systems. Other changes include the addition of new performance tuning aids, and support for native SQL generation for Apache Hive and EMC's Greenplum Database.
A 30-day trial of the Enterprise Edition of Pentaho BI Suite 4.1 is available from pentaho.com/download; download links for the Community Edition are available on the Pentaho Community Wiki. Hosted on SourceForge, the Pentaho BI Platform is licensed under the GPLv2, other components are licensed under the GPLv3, LGPL, EPL and MPL, with a FLOSS exception.
