Document Foundation still not a foundation
In a status update on the Document Foundation blog, Florian Effenberger has confimed that the Foundation is still not legally established. "It has indeed taken much longer than we had initially expected", said Effenberger, adding that the process had been educational. The organisation has approached three German federal states – one has shown very strong support and is likely where the Foundation will be incorporated. It hopes to reveal the name of the state in public, "very soon". In February, the Foundation raised €50,000 to provide the capital to become a standalone legal entity.
The members of the Steering Committee are among those who have been elected to serve on the new Board of Directors. With the new Board established, the Steering Committee has been dissolved and the duties of running the organisation handed over to the Board. Among the tasks for them will be to review the organisation's proposed statutes; the legally binding statutes for the Foundation are being translated to English, from German, to allow the Board of Directors the opportunity to perform that review. Once complete and agreed to, they will be handed over to the authorities for their agreement and, if cleared, the Foundation will then be able to be incorporated.
