Perl 5.14.1 and 5.12.4 arrive
The Perl developers have updated the current stable development branch of Perl, version 5.14, with Perl 5.14.1. While the developers recommend that users of version 5.12 upgrade to 5.14 when convenient, it has not stopped them producing 5.12.4, a maintenance update for what was the previous stable development branch.
Perl 5.14.1 is an update to the Perl 5.14 release from May. The 5.14.1 release includes a number of bug fixes, corrections to modules and documentation, and some internal changes, amounting to around 3500 lines of changes over 38 files. Full details are available in the 5.14.1 delta file and the source code is available to download(direct download).
Perl version 5.12.4 is a recommended update for all users of Perl 5.12. This new version includes some 200 lines of changed code over 11 files. It includes several bug fixes and updates to modules and adds support for the new multi-arch library layout of Ubuntu 11.04. Full details of the changes are available in the 5.12.4 delta file and the source code is also available to download(direct download).
It is likely that Perl 5.14.2 will appear in mid-September, followed by 5.14.3 in December. The next major release of Perl 5 will be 5.16, expected in the spring of 2012. Perl is released under the terms of either the "Artistic License" or the GNU General Public License.
